Holland's leading alto saxophonist
If you like Lou Donaldson when he's accompanied by Hammond organ, better try this CD out. Benjamin Herman's normal quartet consists of Dutch musicians solely, but for this record he was invited to come to New York and play with Idris Muhammad on drums and the formidable Larry Goldings on Hammond (check his solo on the first track, "Kick Back". Probably the best jazz guitar player in Holland and winner of the Thelonious Monk Jazz Award, Jesse van Ruller is Benjamin's standard guitar player.
Benjamin Herman is also the leader of Holland's hippest big band, the 19 member-New Cool Collective. Whenever you find yourself in Holland, be sure to go to one of their gigs!
This CD features that funky sound known from Lou Donaldson's best records in a bit of a more modern and less raw way. A perfect CD for relaxation on a nice summer's day or for a party -> Check it out!
