Reviews from Amazon The following reviews are taken from the Amazon website and were written by Amazon customers. Muddy and Mediocre The CD is a disappointment on two fronts. The recording quality itself is poor; muddy, distorted, inarticulate, sometimes distant, and poorly balanced. I'm sorry to sound so overwhelmingly negative, but the truth is that most of the CD sounds like it was recorded by an amateur with lousy equipment and needles pushing red all over the place. On the second front, the performances are inconsistent and far from inspirational. There is definitely some music worth hearing on this disc, but your Larry Young money is better spent elsewhere ("Unity", for example). THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME Its really funny... the first time I heard this album, I kinda dug it but it didn't blow me away. Then, the other day I was taken the train up to Vermont from Philly and had time to really sit down and listen to what was going on, and woe - - it hit hard. Like John Patton, his tendency is to go for conceptual depth, so at times it sounds like he's understating something, but if you really listen up, you realize the guy was nuts (in the sense of being a genius.) - - The sound is a bit dark at times (like Freddie Roach he has the Leslie on fast most the time), but once you get past that, this is a DEEP and enjoyable listen... I wound up listening to SWEET LORRAINE over and over and over and over again until the batteries went dead. - - Check out neat little things he throws into the bassline, or the sticky rhythms he's throwing over a blues March... Just when he sounds like he's about to do something predictable, he goes off in an entirely different direction and it works. - - If you like this album, dig John Patton (check him out on GRANT GREEN : BLUES FOR LOU and his own releases) and Freddie Roach. (WARNING :This is Larry Young when he was a straight ahead Groove Jazz organist, not the Larry Young of UNITY - - well, same person, different sound.) Also compare with Larry Golding's recent stuff.
